Elements MMA | Kids MMA Promotion Guidelines
A Guide for Students & Families
How Promotions Work
Our promotion system gives students clear, age-appropriate goals while allowing each child to progress at their own pace. Coaches consider technical ability, consistent participation, and how students demonstrate the values of our team both on and off the mats.
We typically organize promotion opportunities in three cycles each year, approximately four months apart. The timelines below are guidelines, not guaranteed promotion dates. Students are promoted when they demonstrate the expectations of their next rank at Elements, home, and in their community!
We want our students to become capable martial artists and strong teammates. These four areas matter at every rank.
Our Four Pillars
Learning and applying age-appropriate martial arts skills with increasing confidence.
Technique
Showing kindness, listening to coaches, and treating themselves and training partners well.
Respect
Supporting classmates, being a good partner, and contributing positively to our community.
Teamwork
Practicing safe movement, focus, self-discipline, and appropriate intensity.

Belt Progression Timelines
Explore the typical path through each program. Actual promotion timing depends on demonstrated readiness and individual progress.
Our younger students build foundational movement, listening skills, coordination, and confidence as they work through their stripe progression.
Little Ninjas
As students grow, expectations expand to include more technical depth, independence, consistency, and leadership.

Student Readiness Checklists
Each checklist explains the skills and behaviors students are working toward for the next level. Families can download a copy to review goals together at home. For example, a student who is currently a White/Yellow Warriors belt should be working towards the Yellow Warriors belt checklist prior to the next promotion cycle.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Consistent attendance provides opportunities to learn and practice, but students also need to demonstrate the skills and habits expected at their rank.
-
We generally work within three promotion cycles each year, about four months apart. Some ranks and students require multiple cycles of learning and practice.
-
That's completely normal! Students will continue building skills at their own pace, and coaches will help them work toward the areas they still need to develop. They should still come to the promotion ceremony if your schedule allows to play games, support their teammates, and potentially earn a Stripe towards their next belt!
-
Reviewing goals together can be helpful. Any physical practice should be age-appropriate and safe; partner techniques should be practiced with an adult present to encourage safe intensity levels.
