Phylicia wins Gold at Tap Cancer Out - Nov 20, 2022 - first tournament for Elements
On November 20, 2022, Team Elements made its competition debut—and Phylicia set the tone in the best way possible. At the Tap Cancer Out tournament, she not only represented our school for the very first time but also brought home gold in a powerful and inspiring performance.
Competing at a major charity event like Tap Cancer Out brings a unique blend of excitement, nerves, and purpose. Phylicia stepped onto the mats with all of that energy behind her, yet she carried herself with incredible focus and determination. From her opening match to the final exchange, she showcased the fundamentals of strong jiu-jitsu: smart defense, well-timed attacks, and unwavering composure.
Each match demonstrated her ability to stay calm under pressure, make quick strategic adjustments, and trust in the training she’s put in day after day. Her transitions were sharp, her positioning sound, and her confidence evident—earning her decisive wins on her way to the top of the podium.
But this victory was about more than a medal. Phylicia became the first-ever competitor to represent Team Elements, marking a milestone moment in our school’s history. Her hard work, courage, and willingness to step into a competitive arena paved the way for every athlete who would follow.
We couldn’t be more proud of her achievement and the example she set. Congratulations to Phylicia on her gold-medal performance—and thank you for launching Team Elements’ competition journey with such strength and heart. This was only the beginning, and what a beginning it was.
